Pierre Laclede Honors College Student Association

The Pierre Laclede Honors College fosters a challenging, innovative curriculum on campus while offering an abundance of research and internship opportunities. A plus for students who are enrolled in the Honors College is that they are automatically a member of the Pierre Laclede Honors College Student Association (PLHCSA) like our fellow Ambassador, Lauren, who serves on the executive board. PLHCSA puts on various events throughout the school year. Events include the award winning event, Paintapalooza, at the beginning of fall semester where you get to have a paint war with your friends, Haunted Honors in October where you go on a spooky tour of UMSL’s creepiest building (the honors College), and Battle of the Bands in the spring where you can enter your band to play or just go and vote for your favorite band. All proceeds (by donation) from events go towards this year’s charity—St. Louis Stray Rescue.


Do not forget to check out their pool tournament that takes place this Thursday, February 18th.

UMSL 2016 Homecoming Queen!

Congratulations, to our fellow UMSL Ambassador Riann Rikard! If you didn’t already know, Riann is now the reigning University of Missouri– St. Louis 2016 Homecoming Queen! Riann was crowned Queen, along with our Homecoming King Braxton Perry, at the Homecoming Dinner and Dance at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel this past weekend. Riann is in her junior year as a nursing student. Although we know Riann from the UMSL Ambassador’s, she is also involved on campus with Delta Zeta and Student Nurses Association. You can find a picture of Riann along with the 2016 Homecoming court below. Once again congratulations Riann!

Campus Organizations

UMSL Ambassadors are involved with many more organizations than just this one, for example, our Lead-in-Training Ambassador Robby is a part of the Japan America Student Association, or JASA. The organization has met several times this semester and new faces are showing up each meeting. On Mondays, JASA meets for what they call "Japanese Language Conversation Table," where they work on their Japanese, talk about what interests them in Japan, and most importantly, it is utilized to introduce new students, especially exchange students, to other students. JASA holds their general meetings every first Wednesday of the month and is always encouraging new faces to drop by. So do yourself a favor and check them out, or check out any other campus organization! You won’t regret it because if you discover an organization that you really enjoy, it could open several doors for you and who knows what could happen.

Scholarship Opportunities

With the ambassadors program, you can be part of an award winning volunteer organization! Being involved with an organization that does a lot of volunteer work on campus and for the campus community, it will not only be advisable to add this organization to your resume but also on the numerous of scholarships that are currently available. Even though the spring semester is just beginning, it is not too early to start thinking about the many scholarships that are available for intelligent and involved students on campus like yourself. Scholarships are a great way to support your college education so you can keep your hard earned money in your pocket. You can find the link to the UMSL Scholarship and Grant homepage here. Upcoming Meeting

This week the UMSL Ambassadors will host our monthly meeting at the new Recreation and Wellness Center! It is going to be a great opportunity for us to learn how to avoid stress year round and especially during finals week. We will also learn about new methods of exercise, as well as some of the great classes offered. The Recreation and Wellness Center offers a variety of new workout equipment and classes that are already paid for by student fees. The meeting will conclude with a private spin class just for the UMSL Ambassadors. We are so excited to work it out!

A Successful Social Event: Haunted Honors

On October 30, the UMSL Ambassadors had the opportunity to gather at the Pierre Laclede Honors College for its annual Haunted Honors at the Provincial House. This was a wonderful opportunity to get to know one another and build upon our friendships. The Pierre Laclede Honors College did a wonderful job with their haunted attraction, and the stories that we heard along the way were bone-chilling! We had a wonderful time screaming when we were frightened and laughing at one another along the way. After going through the Haunted Honors, we went down to the Delmar Loop for a bite to eat. We gathered at Fitz’s and finished out our evening there. What a great night!
